Paul Marcombes
Head of Engineering @Nickel
Paul spent the last six years as Head of Data at Nickel. It was a dream job. Imagine supporting the growth of a company from 300 to 900 employees, from 1 to 4.5 million customers, and from 4 to 40 data people. All this in a trusting environment that gave him a great deal of autonomy to build everything from scratch and have a real impact.
What can you do after that?
Become a data manager in a larger company?
Do the same thing in another scale-up?
Give up on data altogether? Switch to the tech side?
Start your own business?
Paul, who is more tech and organizational than business-oriented, made his choice: to take on six-month assignments in different environments. Today, he is responsible for Nickel's 100+ developers. Tomorrow, he will be helping a data team at a major retailer transform its operations.
The day after tomorrow, these experiences will certainly open other doors, ideally leading to starting his own business. Paul's career path is just one answer among many. And what about you? What's yours? What do you do when you feel like you've reached the top of the data pyramid?
This is the debate Paul will participate in during the roundtable discussion "What's next after data?". A frank discussion to chart the new course for your career.
